Welcome to the Mountain Stories, Mountain Futures project.
At the heart of the project is the Mountain Stories, Mountain Futures podcast. The goal of the podcast is to bring to light new stories and new perspectives on mountain landscapes and mountain communities around the world, with help from a wide range of expert guests. We aim to showcase exciting new research by academic contributors on mountain history, and work by creative practitioners engaging with mountain landscapes in a range of different media.
Side by side with the podcast is a series of new initiatives in the field of ‘mountain humanities’, i.e. the study of human responses to mountains in literature, art and history, from antiquity to the 21st century. As a first step, we are currently working on a project entitled An Object History of Mountains (under contract with White Rose University Press), which brings together academics and creative practitioners, with the goal of opening up some new perspectives on global mountain history.
Please do get in touch if you would like to hear more about the project!
